About the Show
Telegraph Road | The Dire Straits Legacy
Telegraph Road — The Dire Straits Legacy is a powerful live celebration of one of Britain’s most influential rock bands, Dire Straits. Known for their unmistakable sound — clean, expressive guitar tones, understated arrangements, and poetic storytelling — the band was led by the distinctive voice and fingerstyle brilliance of Mark Knopfler. This show captures the spirit and musical craftsmanship that made Dire Straits one of the most respected bands of their era.
Audiences will experience timeless classics including Sultans of Swing, Money for Nothing, and Romeo and Juliet, performed with authenticity and energy. From intricate guitar lines to the dynamic arrangements that defined the original recordings, every song is delivered with passion, precision and deep respect for the music. More than just a tribute, Telegraph Road — The Dire Straits Legacy is a musical journey through the songs that helped define a generation of rock.
Fronting the show is vocalist and guitarist Matt Arthur, an expressive performer from Central West NSW who leads the band The Lazybones. Built on decades of combined musical experience, the group has developed a reputation for engaging and musically rich live performances. Following the release of their 2024 album Then & Now, Matt and the band have toured extensively across New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland, earning strong reviews and building a loyal audience along the way.
The band features an exceptional lineup of Australian musicians. On keyboards is Sam McNally, a founding member of Melbourne’s iconic 80s band Stylus. Over the years he has toured with major artists including Air Supply, John Farnham, Tommy Emmanuel, Richard Clapton, and Tim Finn.
On bass is Michael Vidale, who currently performs with Don Walker, as well as acclaimed guitarist Jeff Lang and folk legends The Bushwackers. Michael was also an original member of Jimmy and the Boys.
Completing the lineup is drummer Dave Egan, who has performed alongside Matt Arthur for more than two decades. Dave has appeared in every major international theatre production and continues to hold a long-running role with Sydney’s iconic band The Enormous Horns.
Together, these seasoned musicians deliver a night of unforgettable songs, exceptional musicianship and the timeless sound of Dire Straits brought vividly back to life.
